After The Fashion Show, a Bravo Channel copycat of "Project Runway," bombed last year, Isaac Mizrahi (the would be Tim Gunn/Michael Kors mentor and judge) of the show has re-emerged on the real "Project Runway."
Sort of.
He's one of the judges for "Project Runway All Stars," a new series kicking off tonight (Jan. 5) at 8 p.m CST on Lifetime Television, which is the home to the regular "Project Runway," reality television fashion competition.
"Project Runway All Stars" will feature 13 contestants who previously appeared on "Project Runway" but failed to win the grand prize. If you're a fan of the show, you'll recognize some fan favorites for their designs and their personality.
The contestants are Austin Scarlett, Kara Janx, Elisa Jimenez, Rami Kashou, Sweet P/Kathleen Vaugh, Jerell Scott, Kenley Collins, Gordana Gelhausen, Anthony Williams, Mila Hermanovski, April Johnson, Michael Costello and Mondo Guerra.
The series shares the same premise as "Project Runway," but there will be no Michale Kors, Nina Garcia, Heidi Klum or most importantly, no Tim Gunn (who is probably not really busy with another television project).
The "Project Runway" cast will launch its 10th season in June.
In the meantime, the "all stars" will be hosted by model Angela Lindvall. Georgina Chapman, co-founder and designer of Marchesa and coincidentally (wink) Harvey Weinstein's wife (the show is produced by The Weinstein Co.), will join Mizrahi and Lindvall as judges. Joanna Coles, editor in chief of Marie Claire, a frequent "Project Runway" (and usually stony) guest judge will serve as the mentor, filling Gunn's giant and famously ingratiating shoes. We wonder what her catch-phrase will be.
The "All Stars" show will be around for 12 episodes. Guest judges will include Miss Piggy (a natural choice ... um, what?), Miranda Kerr, Pharrell Williams, Nanette Lepore, Rachel Roy, Diane von Furstenberg, Catherine Malandrino and Mark Badgley and James Mischka.
The winner of this second-chance competition will receive an exclusive designer boutique in select Neiman Marcus stores and on neimanmarcus.com as well as $100,000 in technology and office space to help expand their business from HP and Intel.
And then there's $100,000 cash from L'Oréal Paris and a feature spread in Marie Claire, for which he or she will serve as a guest editor for one year. And Brother International is providing a deluxe sewing and embroidery studio.
It's the most lucrative package ever awarded on project runway and any of its copycats.
